Aftercare

After getting a new tattoo, proper care is crucial for your tattoo to heal correctly and remain vibrant for years.

Initial Care and Bandage

Transparent Bandage (SecondSkin): It is recommended to leave this special medical film on the tattoo for 4-5 days. Fluid and ink accumulation underneath within the first 24 hours is normal. If you notice excessive redness or rash, remove the bandage earlier.

Bandage Removal: When the time is up, carefully remove the bandage. It is advisable to peel adhesive films slowly under warm running water. Do not re-bandage after removal.

Cleaning: Wash the area gently with lukewarm water and unscented, antibacterial soap. Gently remove accumulated blood, plasma, and excess ink residue. Pat the area dry with a clean, soft towel or paper towel (do not rub). Allow the tattoo to air dry for about 5–10 minutes.

Moisturizing: Apply a thin layer of the recommended aftercare cream or ointment. I generally recommend natural and herbal products (organic coconut oil, shea butter, or a completely plant-based, unscented lotion). Moisturize approximately 4-6 times a day as the area dries.

What to Avoid !

Heavy physical activities: Avoid intense exercise for the first 5 days (ideally 2 weeks), as sweat can increase the risk of infection.

Long-term water exposure: Avoid activities that submerge your tattoo for long periods for at least 2-3 weeks (swimming pools, sea, jacuzzis, saunas).

Sunlight: Do not expose your tattoo to direct sunlight for the first 3 weeks. Even after healing, apply high-protection factor sunscreen (SPF 30+ or 50+) to maintain color vibrancy.

Scratching or picking: Never pick at scabs or scratch the tattoo, even if it is tempting. Forced removal of scabs can lead to color loss or gaps in the tattoo lines.

Chemical products: Do not apply alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, petroleum jelly, or highly perfumed lotions to the fresh tattoo.

Hygiene: Ensure the area remains clean. Change bed sheets and clothing frequently. Keep pets away from the area until healed.
